Veteran is the kind of crowd-pleasing Korean action film that feels alive in every scene—propulsive, sharply funny, and fueled by a righteous anger at the powerful who think consequences are for other people. Ryoo Seung-wan stages fights with a punchy, almost musical clarity, then undercuts the brutality with sly comedy and character beats that make the chaos fun rather than exhausting. Hwang Jung-min’s detective has the scrappy, lived-in charisma of a guy who’s seen every trick in the book, while Yoo Ah-in makes the young heir a chillingly smug villain you’ll love to hate. It’s not for the squeamish—there’s rough violence, heavy profanity, and a few genuinely nasty moments—but if you want a stylish, high-energy thriller that delivers catharsis without losing its sense of humor, this one hits hard.
