6 Days earns its pulse by treating a famous real-life crisis not as a history lesson, but as a pressure cooker where every minute feels negotiated and every decision carries weight. Toa Fraser stages the Iranian Embassy siege with a reporter’s eye for detail and a thriller’s sense of tightening dread, letting the period texture and procedural realism pull you right up to the cordon line. Mark Strong brings steel and fatigue to the negotiator’s calm, Jamie Bell gives the SAS preparation a human edge, and the film’s tension comes as much from restraint as from the eventual eruption of action. It is blunt, profane, and occasionally harrowing, so it won’t be for viewers looking for escapism—but if you want a smart, grounded thriller that respects the people inside the story while keeping you hooked, this one delivers.

6 Days is clearly aiming to be a tense, procedural reconstruction of the 1980 Iranian Embassy siege, prioritizing realism, chain-of-command decisions, and the slow grind of negotiation before the inevitable tactical payoff. The problem is it often plays more like a competent reenactment than a gripping drama: characters are sketched thinly, emotions stay at arm’s length, and long stretches can feel functional rather than suspenseful. If you’re expecting a richly character-driven thriller or a stylish action film, this may leave you cold, even with solid performances from Mark Strong and Jamie Bell. But if you like matter-of-fact historical thrillers and you mainly want the famous raid delivered cleanly and coherently, it does that job well enough.
