Scott and Sid (2018)

20181h 40mNRDramaComedy

From their first encounter as teenagers in high school, Scott and Sid seem unlikely friends. Scott is a shambolic dreamer, intent on carving out his own path in life and holding up a metaphorical middle finger to anyone who tries to stop him. He is a quintessential troubled teen: on his fifth high school by the age of fifteen, alienated from his peers, crippled by recurring nightmares and disliked by his own foster parents. Sid, on the other hand, wants nothing more than to be liked. An unconfident, awkward recluse through circumstance, Sid's impoverished and dysfunctional background leave him no time for friends and no money for hobbies.

Explained

What people think about Scott and Sid

Scott and Sid is special because it finds real warmth and humor in two messed-up, magnetic lives colliding at just the right moment, turning an unlikely friendship into something quietly life-changing. The film has that scrappy, lived-in coming-of-age vibe—funny in the way people are funny when they’re barely holding it together, and moving without straining for tears—anchored by lead performances that make both boys feel specific, flawed, and worth rooting for. It’s ultimately a story about chasing a dream when you don’t have the money, the confidence, or the support system, and still showing up anyway, one stubborn day at a time. If you’re allergic to small, character-driven indie dramas that wear their sincerity on their sleeve, it may not be your thing, but if you want something likable and genuinely uplifting, this one sneaks up on you.
