Mr. Six (2015)

Mr. Six is special because it turns a tough-guy crime tale into something quietly elegiac: a portrait of a man who once lived by a code, now watching the world speed past him on glossy tires and louder attitudes. It’s stylish without showing off, grounding its bursts of action in superb performances and a compelling sense of character—every stare and stubborn gesture feels like history pressing against the present. The tension comes not just from what might happen next, but from the insightful generational clash it captures, where “honour” and “success” mean entirely different things on opposite sides of the street. If you want nonstop shootouts, it may feel more reflective than expected, but if you like crime dramas with real emotional weight and a lingering aftertaste, this one hits hard.

Mr. Six is aiming for a gritty, old-school honor-among-thieves drama about an aging gangster forced back into action to save his son, and when it locks into that father-son urgency, it can be genuinely compelling. The problem is it often takes the scenic route: the pacing is slow, the plot can feel clumsy and occasionally preposterous, and a lot of the supporting characters register as generic rather than memorable. If you’re expecting a tight, propulsive crime-action thriller, the marketing might mislead you and the ending may leave you deflated, possibly because the story feels like it’s been sanded down. Worth a look if you like melancholy, character-leaning crime tales and can tolerate bloat; skip it if you need sharp plotting and consistent momentum.
