Emiliano Rocha Minter shoots the ruined world with hypnotic camerawork and tactile, almost sculptural detail, turning decay into something strangely beautiful while the performances keep it grounded in raw human need. The tone is aggressively confrontational—part survival parable, part taboo fantasia—and it dares you to look away even as it challenges what you think you can tolerate. It’s not for the squeamish or the cautious, but if you’re hungry for audacious, provocative cinema that feels like a new voice kicking down the door, this one earns your attention.

We Are the Flesh is aiming for a grim, fever-dream parable about survival, power, and desire in a post-collapse world, using horror and fantasy more as mood and metaphor than story engine. The problem is it often plays like provocation first and drama second: scenes linger as shocking, carefully composed tableaux that can feel exploitative or deliberately opaque rather than emotionally earned. If you need coherent plotting, clear themes, or characters you can actually latch onto, this will likely feel like an academic exercise in transgression with a lot of unpleasant imagery and not much payoff until the end. That said, if you’re into extreme, art-house boundary-pushing cinema and can tolerate ambiguity in exchange for atmosphere and audacity, there’s a hypnotic visual confidence here that some viewers will find fascinating.
