Crabs! (2021)

Crabs! is the kind of horror-comedy that earns its laughs and its screams the old-fashioned way: with gleeful B-movie swagger, practical creature effects you can practically feel, and a sincere love letter to classic drive-in monster mayhem. It’s set to a prom-night vibe that’s equal parts nostalgic and chaotic, where the jokes land because the movie is in on the fun without winking so hard it breaks the spell. The gore is punchy, the pacing keeps things moving, and there’s a cleverness in how it plays with familiar genre beats while still delivering the messy, creature-feature satisfaction you came for. If you don’t enjoy camp, splatter, and intentionally cheesy thrills, it may not convert you—but if you do, it’s an easy crowd-pleaser.

Crabs! is clearly trying to be a gleefully trashy prom-night creature feature, leaning hard into campy comedy, splattery chaos, and “so bad it’s fun” energy. When it works, it’s because the pace is lively and the movie commits to the bit, delivering a few genuinely amusing moments and a scrappy underdog vibe. But the humor can feel overdone and jarring (especially around the character Radu), the CGI is frequently rough, and the plot often slides into baffling, anything-goes nonsense that undercuts tension. If you want real scares or a coherent monster-movie build, this probably isn’t for you; if you’re in the mood for loud, goofy midnight-movie silliness, you might have a decent time.
