Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016)

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising earns its sequel status by taking a familiar “next-door nightmare” setup and injecting it with sharper bite, bigger confidence, and a surprisingly savvy streak about who gets to party and who gets policed. Nicholas Stoller keeps the pace brisk and the comedy gleefully anarchic, while Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen sell the marital panic with lived-in warmth and Zac Efron leans into his himbo charm with a self-aware sweetness that makes the rivalry weirdly endearing. The vibe is loud, raunchy, and relentlessly escalating—less a gentle sitcom than a friendly riot that keeps finding new ways to top itself. If you’re not into crude, very explicit humor, this one will be a hard pass, but if you want a high-energy comedy with real chemistry and a mischievous sense of subversion, it’s a genuinely fun time.

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising is clearly trying to flip the script from the first film by turning the “party next door” chaos into a female-led rebellion and giving the characters a slightly more grown-up, end-of-an-era arc. The problem is it still leans heavily on the same escalation template and familiar beats, so if you’re hoping for a fresh premise instead of “bigger, louder, grosser,” you may find the pacing and writing a bit thin. The comedy can be hit-or-miss, with a lot of crude, sexual, and drug-fueled gags that won’t land if you’re not already on board with that style (and yes, it goes pretty far). Still, Rose Byrne remains a sharp comic anchor, Zac Efron has fun playing against type, and if you liked the first movie mainly for its chaotic set pieces, this one will probably scratch that itch.
