Avengers Grimm (2015)

Avengers Grimm is special because it leans into its fairy-tale-meets-modern-world mash-up with the kind of gleeful, anything-goes imagination you rarely see outside midnight-movie favorites. It plays like a scrappy comic-book riff on classic princess lore—capes swapped for corsets, magic traded like street currency—where the fun comes from watching these iconic heroines throw down in Los Angeles with attitude, powers, and a wink. Casper Van Dien’s Rumpelstiltskin is enjoyably theatrical, and the whole film wears its low-budget goofiness as a feature, not a flaw, delivering brisk fights and B-movie charm instead of prestige polish. If you need sleek effects and serious worldbuilding, this isn’t your kingdom, but if you’re on the fence and want an entertaining, creative oddball that knows exactly how silly it is, it’s an easy yes.

Avengers Grimm is clearly trying to mash up fairy-tale heroines with modern-day action, giving Cinderella, Snow White, and the rest a “superteam” vibe and a campy villain to punch. The problem is it looks and sounds like a bargain-bin TV movie: the direction feels shaky, the dialogue is clunky, and the script lurches from idea to idea like it’s making it up mid-scene, with a soundtrack that often blares at the worst times. If you need polished effects, coherent pacing, or anything resembling Marvel-level choreography, this will annoy you fast. If you can enjoy low-budget fantasy as unintentional comedy and you’re mainly here for the novelty of the concept (plus a few fun casting choices), you might get some guilty-pleasure mileage out of it.
