Isaac Rentz keeps the pacing snappy and the mischief escalating, while Topher Grace makes Nick an easy underdog to root for—wry, frazzled, and quietly aching for the stage he left behind—surrounded by a delightfully unhinged ensemble that includes a scene-stealing Anne Heche and the smooth spark of Taye Diggs. The movie’s one-hit-wonder musical hook gives it a buoyant, sing-along energy without turning it into a full-on musical, and the tone stays sexy, rowdy, and warmly affectionate toward the weirdos who make shows happen. Fair warning: it’s proudly raunchy with heavy profanity and some nudity and drug humor, but if you like your comedy fast, backstage, and a little bit wild, this one earns its applause.
