Cage Dive (2017)
Three friends from California are filming an audition tape for an extreme reality game show. They document their journey to Australia where they will be doing their most dangerous activity: Shark Cage Diving. A catastrophic turn of events leaves them in baited water full of Great White Sharks, turning their recording into a blood chilling diary of survival...And death.
What people think about Cage Dive
Cage Dive is the kind of lean, nasty little thriller that understands the oldest fear in the ocean: not what you can see, but what might be circling just beneath you. Shot in a found-footage style that actually earns its claustrophobia, it turns sunlit adventure into a tight vise of survival tension, with action beats that feel immediate and uncomfortably close. The performances sell the panic and fraying trust in a way that keeps the ordeal grounded, so the sharks aren’t just monsters—they’re the ticking clock. If you’re allergic to shaky-cam or you want a glossy, big-budget creature feature, this may not be your swim, but if you like your horror stripped down, suspenseful, and relentless, it’s a surprisingly effective plunge.
Cage Dive is clearly aiming for a lean, found-footage survival nightmare: three thrill-seekers, open water, and great whites circling while the camera captures every awful second. The problem is it rarely builds the kind of tension that makes this setup work, because the characters and their relationship drama can feel more irritating than gripping, so you may find yourself waiting for the movie to get scary instead of actually feeling scared. The shaky, “recovered footage” style also wears thin fast, and the shark moments often land with more noise than suspense. If you’re a die-hard shark-movie completist or you enjoy low-budget found-footage realism, there are a few nasty beats and a bleak vibe to latch onto, but anyone expecting tight thrills or memorable characters should probably swim past this one.
