Denmark, 2016. A blurred note is found in a bottle that has traveled across the ocean for a long time. At the same time, new tragic events take place that test their faith and deepest beliefs.
What people think about A Conspiracy of Faith
A Conspiracy of Faith grabs you with one of those irresistibly eerie setups—a blood-written message in a bottle—and then tightens the screws with the cool confidence of top-tier Nordic noir. Hans Petter Moland turns bleak material into something compulsively watchable, pairing crisp, almost luminous visuals with a chilling atmosphere that makes every clue feel hard-won and every silence speak. Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Fares Fares ground the dread with a lived-in partnership that’s equal parts sharp, weary, and quietly humane, pulling you through a mystery that’s as intricate as it is unsettling. Fair warning: it’s grim and at times brutal, so it’s not for the squeamish—but if you want a dark, gripping thriller that respects your intelligence, this one delivers.
A Conspiracy of Faith wants to be a grim, methodical Scandinavian procedural where a clever hook (the blood-written message in a bottle) pulls Department Q into a long-buried chain of crimes and moral rot. It mostly delivers on atmosphere and urgency, with solid performances from Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Fares Fares keeping the investigation watchable even when the plot gets heavy. The downside is that it leans hard on familiar Nordic-noir conventions—brooding antihero, religious-community secrets, serial predator beats—so if you’ve seen a few of these, the turns may feel more dutiful than shocking. And with its intense kidnapping/child-abduction theme and bouts of severe violence, this isn’t a “cozy mystery” night; if that subject matter or gore is a dealbreaker, skip it.
