The problem is it’s so punishing—especially in its depictions of sexual violence and cruelty—that for many viewers it won’t feel “powerful,” it’ll feel like endurance cinema, with a long, heavy trek and pacing that can drag. If you’re expecting a conventional Western-thriller with cathartic payoffs, the tone is harsher and more bleakly melodramatic than that, and the finale may feel stretched.
