I Am Dragon (2015)

I Am Dragon is the kind of romantic fantasy that sweeps you up on pure atmosphere: a fairy-tale world of Kievan Rus’ legends, moonlit shores, and a remote island that feels both beautiful and haunted. Indar Dzhendubaev stages the story like a lavish storybook come to life, with striking visuals and surprisingly convincing effects that make the dragon myth feel tactile rather than kitschy. The tone is tender and yearning but edged with danger, as the romance grows in the shadow of something primal and uncontrollable—more gothic fable than bubbly fantasy. If you’re allergic to heightened, melodramatic love stories you may find it a bit intense, but if you want an earnest, visually enchanting tale where the emotion is as big as the skies, it’s easy to fall under its spell.

I Am Dragon is clearly aiming for a lush, fairy-tale romance where beauty, danger, and longing do most of the storytelling, and on that front it delivers some striking visuals and an attractive, moody atmosphere. The problem is the script often feels thin and repetitive, so the central relationship can come across more like a pretty concept than an emotionally convincing journey. If you need sharp dialogue, strong character logic, or plot momentum, you may find it slow, melodramatic, and oddly dull for a movie about a dragon kidnapping a bride. But if you’re in the mood for a glossy, brooding fantasy love story with mild peril and more vibes than substance, it can still be an easy watch.
