Florian Gottschick shoots Berlin with a restless, neon pulse that makes the romance and the nightlife feel seductive, while keeping an honest eye on the emotional cost of living a double life. It’s not for everyone—its sexuality is explicit and its moral terrain is messy—but if you want a drama that feels raw, contemporary, and unafraid to look at desire and survival in the same breath, it’s a gripping watch.

Fucking Berlin is clearly aiming for a raw, coming-of-age portrait of a young woman chasing freedom in Berlin while juggling love, studies, and sex work, and it doesn’t flinch from messy choices. The problem is it often feels more like a string of edgy episodes than a fully shaped character journey, with emotional beats that can land as rushed or oddly detached rather than genuinely earned. If you’re looking for a nuanced, deeply researched look at prostitution or a romance you can root for, this may frustrate you with its thinly drawn relationships and “shock-to-keep-it-moving” energy. That said, it does capture a certain restless, nocturnal Berlin mood and gives its lead a committed, watchable performance—just don’t expect subtlety or much comfort along the way.
