What people think about Cart
Cart is the kind of drama that sneaks up on you: it takes an everyday workplace most movies ignore and turns it into a gripping, humane portrait of dignity under pressure. Director Boo Ji-young keeps the tone grounded and intimate, letting the fluorescent-lit reality of retail work and the quiet anxieties of temporary employment feel painfully real, until the story’s anger and solidarity ignite in ways that are both stirring and believable. Yum Jung-ah, Moon Jeong-hee, and Kim Young-ae anchor an ensemble that feels less like “characters” and more like people you might actually know—tough, tired, funny, scared, and brave in imperfect, recognizable ways. It’s sincere social critique without speeches for the sake of speeches, rewarding precisely because it refuses easy comfort; if you prefer escapism, it may feel heavy, but if you want a film with heart, backbone, and purpose, Cart delivers.
Cart is clearly trying to be a heartfelt, socially conscious drama about ordinary workers finding their voice against a cold corporate machine, and it does land some genuine emotion thanks to a committed cast and an easy-to-root-for underdog setup. The problem is that it often plays like a checklist of familiar labor-movie beats, with character types and conflicts that feel pre-packaged rather than freshly observed. If you’re sensitive to melodrama, on-the-nose messaging, or scenes engineered to make you feel outraged on cue, this may feel heavy-handed and a bit predictable. But if you want an accessible, earnest crowd-pleaser about solidarity and resilience—and you don’t mind the lack of subtlety—it can still be an engaging watch.
