Explained

What people think about The Baker

The Baker has that rare, satisfying simplicity: a lean crime thriller that knows exactly what it is, then executes with grit, heart, and bruising efficiency. Ron Perlman is terrific as a man who’s tried to go quiet and decent, only to find the past has teeth—and the film’s best moments come from watching his stoicism crack just enough to let tenderness and fury through. Jonathan Sobol keeps the pacing tight and the mood wintry and hard-edged, with fight choreography that lands cleanly and a score that pushes the tension without drowning the emotion. If you’re allergic to familiar genre frameworks, you may find the setup well-worn, but if you want a tough, well-acted protector story with real weight behind the punches, this one delivers.
