Gun Shy (2017)

Gun Shy is the kind of scruffy, sunburnt genre cocktail that knows exactly how ridiculous its premise is—and leans in with a grin. Antonio Banderas turns an aging rock god into an unexpectedly game action lead, playing the panic, bravado, and bruised ego for laughs while the film keeps tossing him into scrapes that feel equal parts thriller and farce. Director Simon West brings a punchy, vacation-gone-feral energy to the Chilean backdrop, mixing pirates, crime-movie tension, and a steady undercurrent of offbeat comedy without getting bogged down in seriousness. It’s definitely not for viewers who want sleek realism or a gentle ride—this one’s R-rated, rowdy, and a little shameless—but if you’re in the mood for a breezy, chaotic rescue caper with a charismatic star at the center, it’s an easy yes.

Gun Shy is clearly aiming for a goofy action-comedy: an over-the-hill rock star tossed into a pirate kidnapping plot and forced to fake his way through heroics.
