The Ticket (2016)

The Ticket is special because it takes a high-concept twist—sight regained after a lifetime of blindness—and turns it into a quietly piercing meditation on what we choose to value when the world suddenly opens up. Ido Fluk directs with a sensitive, unshowy confidence, letting the film’s elegant visual composition and hushed, alluring atmosphere do as much storytelling as the dialogue, while Dan Stevens delivers a performance that’s both magnetic and unsettling in the best way. Malin Åkerman and Kerry Bishé ground the story with emotional clarity, keeping the drama intimate even as the temptation of “more” grows louder. It’s not a crowd-pleasing thrill ride and it moves at a deliberate pace, but if you like character-driven dramas that linger in your mind and reward close attention, this one is absolutely worth the ticket.

The Ticket is aiming for a thoughtful modern parable about how “seeing” can actually make a person spiritually blind, and it has a strong hook with Dan Stevens anchoring the transformation. The problem is that once the premise is established, the story tends to drift into familiar moral territory, and the pacing can feel sluggish as it circles the same point rather than deepening it. It also loses focus in the back half, so what starts as an intimate character study can turn into a predictable cautionary tale. If you like slow-burn dramas with a clear message and can tolerate a bit of heaviness to get there, you may appreciate it; if you want sharp storytelling momentum or surprising turns, this will likely test your patience.
