Jungle (2017)

Jungle is the kind of survival thriller that earns every bead of sweat, dropping you into the Bolivian rainforest with an immediacy you can almost feel in your lungs. Daniel Radcliffe gives a fiercely committed performance—raw, physical, and surprisingly charismatic—that turns what could’ve been a simple ordeal into something tense and human, where stubborn hope and bad decisions collide. Greg McLean keeps the tone lean and nerve-tight, letting the jungle’s beauty curdle into menace as the suspense builds scene by scene. It is gritty and occasionally hard to watch (there’s blood, animal violence, and some body-horror moments), but if you want an adventure-drama that’s genuinely gripping rather than glossy, this one sinks its hooks in and doesn’t let go.

Jungle is clearly aiming for a gritty, true-ish survival descent where youthful bravado gets stripped down to raw endurance, and Daniel Radcliffe commits hard to that physical, miserable journey. The problem is the film’s storytelling doesn’t always match its intensity: the setup leans on familiar “mysterious guide” beats, and once the ordeal kicks in, the pacing can feel repetitive and structurally loose, like it’s circling the same suffering instead of escalating it. If you want a tight thriller with clever turns, you may find it grim, blunt, and a bit dramatically flat despite the danger. But if you can handle some nasty body-horror moments and you’re in the mood for an immersive, sweaty fight-against-nature experience, it delivers a few genuinely tense stretches and a strong central performance.
