Vendetta (2015)

Vendetta is the kind of lean, mean action-drama that grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go, powered by a pulpy premise and a prison setting that turns every hallway into a pressure cooker. Dean Cain brings a granite-jawed intensity that fits a man who’s decided the system isn’t enough, and the Soska sisters stage the violence with a nasty proficiency—brutal, clear, and escalating toward a full-bore riot rather than petering out into noise. The vibe is unapologetically B-movie in the best sense: grimy, hard-edged, and more interested in momentum and impact than polish, with just enough imagination in the criminal ecosystem behind bars to keep it from feeling routine. Fair warning, it’s not for the squeamish—the gore is severe and the cruelty is front-loaded—but if you want a tough, cathartic, old-school revenge picture with fights that land, this one delivers.

Vendetta is clearly aiming for a stripped-down revenge thriller where a cop willingly goes to prison to settle the score, and it doesn’t pretend to be anything more sophisticated than that. The problem is the screenplay is on autopilot: you can see every turn coming, and the story often feels like a thin excuse to move from one brutal fight to the next rather than build tension or character. The action has some punch and occasional inventive staging, but it’s wrapped in severe, nasty violence that can feel repetitive instead of cathartic. If you want a smart, twisty crime drama or emotional depth, this will likely frustrate you; if you’re mainly here for hard R-rated brawls and a straightforward vengeance fantasy, it may do the job.
