Remember (2015)

Christopher Plummer is extraordinary as Zev, turning frailty and confusion into a kind of razor-edged suspense as each new town, face, and clue could be salvation or a dead end. Atom Egoyan directs with a steady, unblinking patience, letting tension seep in through silences and small details until the film feels like a moral labyrinth as much as a mystery. It’s a dark, somber watch with moments of violence and a heavy historical shadow, so it won’t be for everyone—but if you want a drama-thriller that’s genuinely gripping and anchored by masterful acting, this one stays with you.

Remember is clearly trying to fuse Holocaust trauma with a lean, road-trip revenge thriller, and it gives Christopher Plummer a meaty role that he plays with real gravity. The problem is the movie leans hard on plot mechanics and “gotcha” turns that can feel gimmicky, with logic gaps you’ll notice more the longer it goes on. If you’re looking for a nuanced, emotionally grounded exploration of memory and survival, the thriller framing may strike you as contrived or even uncomfortably exploitative. But if you can accept a pulpy, suspense-first approach and you’re mainly here for tense confrontations and strong late-career performances, it can still be a watchable, brisk ride.
