The Breakup Guru (2014)

The Breakup Guru is the kind of rom-com that wins you over less with perfection than with sheer comic momentum and an unexpectedly warm heart. Deng Chao throws himself into the role with a fearless, elastic goofiness that turns even small moments into punchlines, while the film’s scrappy, street-level vibe gives the romance a lived-in charm instead of glossy fantasy. It’s broad, silly, and proudly crowd-pleasing, but it also knows when to ease off the jokes and let a little tenderness sneak in.
