Makenzie Vega anchors the film with a performance that feels quietly fierce rather than melodramatic, while Khandi Alexander brings steadiness and moral gravity as the detective trying to cut through noise and denial. It’s a tough watch by design—more sobering than “entertaining”—but if you’re on the fence and want a drama that’s strong enough to provoke thought and demand empathy, it earns your attention.

The Assault is clearly trying to shine a light on how sexual violence gets buried by school politics and social media noise, and it wants to give its survivor a voice while framing the case like a mystery she has to solve.
