Finders Keepers (2014)

Finders Keepers takes the well-worn “creepy doll” setup and gives it an intimate, surprisingly emotional edge by rooting the terror in a fractured family trying to start over. Alexander Yellen keeps the vibe lean and nasty—more mounting dread than cheap noise—while Jaime Pressly sells the mother’s panic with a grounded urgency that makes the supernatural feel uncomfortably close, and Tobin Bell adds a welcome chill of authority when the story starts digging into what’s really at work. The film’s scares come from watching a child’s innocence curdle into something alien, and it knows how to turn ordinary rooms and quiet moments into trapdoors. If you prefer your horror subtle and ambiguity-heavy you may find it a bit direct, but for fans of possession tales and haunted-object thrillers, it’s a tight, watchable ride with a mean streak and a beating heart.

Finders Keepers is clearly aiming for a classic “cursed doll ruins a family” ride, mixing suburban divorce drama with supernatural horror and a few nasty escalations. The problem is it leans hard on familiar haunted-house beats and jump-scare rhythms, so if you’ve seen a handful of possession/doll movies, you’ll likely predict the turns long before the characters do. The acting is serviceable (Jaime Pressly does what she can with the stressed-mom role, and Tobin Bell adds some gravitas), but the film’s tension often feels more routine than truly creepy. If you’re in the mood for a straightforward, PG-13-ish spooky watch with moderate violence and no sexual content, it’ll pass the time; if you want fresh mythology, deeper character work, or genuinely unsettling horror, this probably isn’t your pick.
