Citizen Vigilante (2026)
A man takes justice into his own hands, hunting down criminals. His vigilante crusade makes him a social media star but puts him at odds with the local police chief.
What people think about Citizen Vigilante
Citizen Vigilante is the kind of pulpy, provocative thriller that dares you to squirm while it keeps you riveted—an angry, neon-lit descent into what happens when “justice” becomes a brand. Uwe Boll leans into the discomfort with a brisk, never-boring momentum, and Armie Hammer gives Sanders a chilling mix of intelligence, damage, and charisma that makes the character as watchable as he is alarming. The Zagreb backdrop and the Interpol pursuit add an international, cat-and-mouse snap, while the film’s real hook is how it toys with your instincts to cheer and recoil in the same breath. Fair warning: the sex and gore are blunt and often gratuitous, so if you want a tasteful crime mystery this isn’t it—but if you’re up for something aggressive, engaging, and hard to shake, it delivers.
Citizen Vigilante is clearly aiming for a ripped-from-the-headlines, morally thorny thriller about what happens when “the system” fails and a rich, damaged man decides he’s the solution. The problem is that it reportedly mistakes shock for substance, leaning hard into gratuitous sex and gore while treating its vigilante fantasy with an ugly, morally hollow confidence rather than real interrogation. Uwe Boll’s direction doesn’t help the material find nuance, and the whole thing can feel more like provocation than storytelling, which may leave you feeling grimy instead of thrilled. If you’re looking for a smart cat-and-mouse mystery or a thoughtful critique of justice, skip it; if you can stomach exploitation-heavy violence and you mainly want blunt, pulpy mayhem with a chase dynamic, you might find a few guilty-pleasure moments.
