Olivia Milch keeps the vibe loose and hangout-friendly—part stoner-comedy energy, part tender snapshot of friendship under pressure—while Lucy Hale gives the story a grounded center you can actually root for. The movie’s strength is how it captures that dizzy moment when everyone’s future is arriving at once, and the jokes land precisely because the emotions underneath are genuine. It’s not for everyone, though: it deals with heavy material, including sexual assault, so go in prepared—but if you want a coming-of-age comedy with an honest, darker undertow, it’s more affecting than you might expect.

Dude is aiming for a messy, end-of-high-school hangout comedy that also tackles real pain—grief, friendship fractures, and the panic of what comes next. The problem is it often feels like two different movies fighting for control: random stoner-style bits and party antics sit awkwardly beside heavy material, so the emotional moments can land as rushed or underwritten rather than earned.
