Maa Behen is special because it takes a gloriously grim “what now?” premise and spins it into a tight, nervy ride where laughter catches in your throat and then dares you to laugh again. Suresh Triveni directs with the confidence of someone willing to take tonal risks, letting the comedy, thriller tension, and family drama braid together instead of politely taking turns. Madhuri Dixit is terrific as Rekha—commanding, unpredictable, and painfully human—while Triptii Dimri and Ravi Kishan help form a central trio whose chemistry makes every uneasy beat feel alive. Beneath the wicked humor and crime-movie momentum, there’s a sharp feminist satire about control, complicity, and choice, and a surprisingly moving current of female solidarity; if you prefer your comedies light and your thrillers straight-faced, this one may not be for you, but if you like films that play on the edge, it’s hard to resist.

Maa Behen clearly wants to be a deliciously twisted midnight phone-call thriller wrapped in dark-comedy family drama, and with Suresh Triveni plus a cast like Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri, the ambition is easy to respect. The problem is the screenplay doesn’t land its juggling act: the tone keeps swerving between funny, tense, and heartfelt without a clean rhythm, so scenes that should hit hard often feel oddly muted. The plotting gets crowded and the pacing lurches, which can leave you more confused than intrigued about what matters and why. If you love messy, genre-blending stories and you’re mainly here for performances and sharp moments, you’ll find some rewards, but if you need tight narrative clarity and consistent tension, this one may test your patience.
