Jigsaw (2017)

Jigsaw feels like a slick, late-series shot of adrenaline: it takes the Saw formula of moral riddles and mechanical nightmares and packages it with a cleaner, more modern pulse, building dread through crisp investigation scenes that keep you guessing about who’s pulling the strings. The traps are the main event—elaborate, nasty, and staged with a grim showman’s flair—yet the movie knows how to pace them with a mystery thread that keeps the tension simmering between bursts of brutality. It’s the kind of horror that’s less about jump scares and more about watching inevitability click into place, with a few enjoyably audacious turns that remind you why this franchise became a cultural dare. Jigsaw is clearly trying to reboot the Saw machine with a slicker look, a fresh mystery hook, and that familiar “who’s really pulling the strings?” vibe. The problem is it often feels like a greatest-hits remix: the traps are grisly enough, but the tension and characters are oddly flat, so you’re watching pieces move rather than caring who survives.
