Zipper (2015)

Patrick Wilson gives a committed, charismatic performance that makes Sam Ellis more than a cautionary headline—he’s compelling even when you’re wincing at his choices—and Lena Headey brings a sharp, complex gravity that keeps the marriage and the stakes feeling painfully real. Director Mora Stephens keeps the tone tense and seductive, letting each new “small” decision tighten like a noose, so the suspense comes from consequence rather than cheap twists. It is frankly sexual and unapologetically R-rated, so it won’t be for everyone, but if you like character-driven dramas with a thriller’s pulse and strong acting at the center, it’s an engrossing watch.

In practice, it often plays more like a self-serious melodrama with muted tension, clunky pacing, and stakes that never quite tighten into the gripping spiral it’s aiming for.
