Joe Wright stages the adventure with storybook bravado—lavish costumes, swooping effects, and punchy action sequences that keep the pace buoyant—while Levi Miller brings a sincere, scrappy spark to Peter’s journey from lonely kid to something mythic. Hugh Jackman clearly relishes the villainy, and Garrett Hedlund’s rough-edged, unexpectedly charming Hook adds a buddy-adventure vibe that keeps the film light on its feet even when the stakes rise. It’s not the definitive Peter Pan for purists who want the classic tale untouched, but if you’re on the fence and craving a glossy, family-friendly fantasy that commits to spectacle and momentum, this one delivers a few real bursts of magic.

Pan is clearly aiming to be a big, candy-colored origin story that reintroduces Neverland with modern blockbuster energy, and you can feel Joe Wright reaching for wonder and momentum. The problem is it plays like a noisy sprint: the plot barrels from set piece to set piece with thin character work, so Peter, Hook, and Tiger Lily rarely land as people you genuinely care about, and the supposed friendship chemistry feels more announced than earned. Hugh Jackman brings committed, theatrical villain swagger and the visuals are often lavish, but the constant CGI chaos can come off shrill rather than magical, leaving the adventure oddly joyless. If you want a warm, witty, character-driven Peter Pan tale, this probably isn’t it; if you’re fine with a flashy, kid-safe spectacle that prioritizes noise and color over story, you may get enough mileage out of it.
