Logan (2017)

What makes Logan special is how it takes a familiar superhero icon and treats him like a human being with mileage on his soul—scarred, stubborn, and still capable of grace. James Mangold stages the action with a gritty, tactile weight, but the real punch comes from the quiet, thoughtful drama between Hugh Jackman’s bruised final turn and Patrick Stewart’s aching, dignified Professor X. It’s a mature, often haunting road-movie vibe wrapped in science fiction, where violence isn’t flashy so much as consequential, and emotion earns its place without begging for it. Fair warning: it’s darker and more intense than most comic-book films, but if you want a superhero story that feels like it has lived a life, Logan delivers.

Logan is clearly aiming for a grim, character-driven send-off—more modern western than glossy superhero romp—and it largely commits to that bleak, intimate tone. If you’re coming for tight comic-book plotting and snappy dialogue, you may find the story a bit wobbly, with some convenient leaps and stretches where the pacing drags instead of builds. It’s also firmly R-rated: the violence is blunt and the mood is heavy, so it’s not a “fun” watch and it won’t suit anyone sensitive to explicit brutality. That said, Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart bring real weariness and heart, and Dafne Keen adds a jolt of intensity—just don’t expect a crowd-pleasing Marvel-style ride.
