George Lopez delivers a surprisingly grounded, big-hearted performance, and Jamie Lee Curtis adds steel and compassion in all the right places, giving the story a steady adult backbone without stealing the spotlight from the students. Spare Parts is clearly aiming for an uplifting, based-on-a-true-story underdog win, mixing immigrant stakes with a feel-good “teacher believes in the kids” arc. The problem is it leans hard on familiar inspirational-drama beats, so you can often see every setback, pep talk, and turnaround coming from a mile away, with characters that feel more like roles to fill than fully lived-in people.
