Bitter Harvest is the kind of historical drama that feels urgent simply because it shines a light where cinema too often looks away, dramatizing the Holodomor with a blunt, mournful conviction that lingers after the credits. George Mendeluk gives the film a sweeping, old-fashioned romantic pulse—Max Irons and Samantha Barks anchor the story with sincerity—while the atmosphere grows steadily darker as survival, identity, and dignity are squeezed by a machine that treats people like inventory.
