All Together Now (2020)

All Together Now is special because it finds hope in a place movies rarely look: the quiet, exhausting logistics of getting through each day when you’re barely hanging on, and the courage it takes to let people see you. Auliʻi Cravalho gives Amber a bright, lived-in charisma that never turns her into a saint—she’s funny, stubborn, generous, and sometimes her own worst enemy—which makes the film’s warmth feel earned instead of manufactured. Brett Haley keeps the tone tender and human, balancing hard knocks with the gentle pull of community, so the story becomes less about a single “big moment” and more about the accumulating grace of small kindnesses. If you’re allergic to earnest, feel-good dramas, it may occasionally brush close to that line, but it mostly stays on the right side—uplifting in a way that feels like a hand on your shoulder, not a lecture.

All Together Now is clearly aiming for an uplifting, tear-jerking drama about resilience, community, and a young woman learning to accept help when life keeps punching down. The problem is it often leans hard into soapiness and emotional shortcuts, so the homelessness storyline can feel more like a neatly packaged inspirational tale than something grounded and earned. If you’re allergic to cloying “everything works out” payoffs or you want a sharper, more realistic take on hardship, this may leave you rolling your eyes rather than reaching for tissues. That said, Auliʻi Cravalho is genuinely likable and committed, and if you’re in the mood for a warm, crowd-pleasing cry with a big heart (and you can forgive the fantasy), it can still do the job.
