It’s revealing and genuinely informative without feeling like homework, building momentum as an Irish journalist follows his instincts into a world where charisma, money, and myth-making can be as powerful as any performance enhancer. Ben Foster is terrific as Lance Armstrong, all controlled intensity and charm with a chill underneath, while Chris O’Dowd brings grounded humanity to the pursuit, making the stakes feel personal rather than abstract. If you like smart, precise, adult dramas that entertain while they peel back the machinery of fame, this is a bracing watch—though if you want a purely inspirational sports movie, it may feel more like a reckoning than a celebration.

The Program is clearly aiming to be a sober, journalistic takedown of the Lance Armstrong myth, focusing on the grind of investigation rather than flashy sports-movie triumph. The problem is that it often feels a bit clinical and oddly unexciting for a story that should be electric, with pacing that can drag and characters who aren’t especially inviting to spend time with. If you want a tense, propulsive thriller or a rousing underdog narrative, this may leave you cold.
