Deborah Chow keeps the tone claustrophobic and tense, letting the mansion feel less like a home than a beautifully decorated trap, while the young cast sells the fear and resilience with surprising force. The real pleasure, though, is watching Ellen Burstyn turn the grandmother into a portrait of righteous cruelty—cold, controlled, and utterly hypnotic—while Heather Graham brings a slippery, unsettling edge to a mother you want to trust but can’t. It’s not for everyone, given the taboo themes and emotional brutality, but if you’re on the fence and crave a twisty, soapy thriller with strong performances and a mean streak, this one scratches that itch.
