What people think about Hardcore Henry
Hardcore Henry is the rare action movie that feels like a dare—shot almost entirely from a first-person perspective, it drops you into a breathless, one-day sprint through Moscow that plays like a live-action fever dream of a great video game. What makes it special isn’t just the gimmick, but how confidently director Ilya Naishuller uses it to deliver inventive, precisely choreographed mayhem, with Sharlto Copley injecting a wicked sense of humor that keeps the carnage from turning monotonous. The vibe is loud, kinetic, and gleefully unhinged, a splatterpunk roller coaster where the science-fiction premise is mainly fuel for bigger stunts and bolder set pieces. It’s absolutely not for the squeamish or anyone who dislikes relentless ultra-violence, but if you want pure, audacious adrenaline with real craft behind the chaos, this one earns its cult reputation.
Hardcore Henry is basically a feature-length first-person shooter trying to turn pure adrenaline into a movie, and to its credit it commits hard: relentless momentum, inventive stunts, and Sharlto Copley doing energetic, weirdly charming work to keep things moving. The problem is the “you are the camera” gimmick is the main meal, and once the novelty wears off you’re left with a thin story, paper characters, and action that can start to feel like nonstop noise rather than escalating drama. It’s also aggressively violent and chaotic, with a pace that doesn’t give you much room to breathe—some viewers will find it thrilling, others will find it exhausting or even headache-inducing. If you want plot, emotional investment, or a more traditionally satisfying action arc, this may feel like an overlong tech demo; if you want a brutal, one-day sprint of mayhem, it delivers exactly that.
