What people think about The Conjuring 2
What makes The Conjuring 2 special is how confidently it turns a haunted-house setup into a full-bodied, nerve-tightening experience—less a parade of jump scares than a carefully conducted symphony of dread. James Wan stages terror with a craftsman’s patience, letting silence, shadow, and space do the heavy lifting until the scares land with bruising precision. At its center, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson give the Warrens a human warmth that makes the supernatural feel even colder, grounding the film in something like faith, fear, and devotion rather than mere spectacle. If you want horror that’s atmospheric, elegantly made, and genuinely scary (and you don’t mind being put through the wringer), this is one of the rare sequels that earns its reputation.
The Conjuring 2 is clearly aiming for a bigger, more emotional sequel—upping the scale, leaning into the Warrens’ relationship, and turning the Enfield case into a full-on haunted-house spectacle. The problem is that “bigger” often means longer and noisier, with stretches that feel padded and a final act that gets messy, confusing, and less scary than it wants to be. If you loved the first film for its tight pacing and sharp, inventive dread, this one may feel more like a polished assembly of familiar horror beats than a fresh nightmare. That said, James Wan still delivers a few standout set pieces, and Farmiga and Wilson remain compelling enough to carry you through even when the story starts coasting.
