Another Day of Life is that rare film that makes history feel like it’s happening in your nervous system, using bold, graphic-novel animation to plunge you into the dust, fear, and moral fog of Angola’s 1975 civil war. What makes it special is its hybrid design: the stylized, kinetic reconstructions don’t replace truth, they amplify it, and the real-life interviews threaded through the film land like quiet gut punches that remind you these aren’t “characters” so much as survivors with memories. The tone is urgent and immersive—part road movie, part war diary—following journalist Ryszard Kapuściński as the distance between observer and participant begins to collapse. It’s not a casual watch, and if you prefer tidy explanations or clean heroes, the film’s messy, human immediacy may challenge you, but if you want an engrossing, visually daring experience that honors what reporting can cost, it’s absolutely worth the trip.

Another Day of Life is clearly aiming for something ambitious: a hybrid of animated memoir and documentary that tries to make a chaotic, morally bruising civil war feel immediate and personal. The catch is the dramatized animation can look stiff and a bit artificial, and that stylization sometimes puts a pane of glass between you and the human suffering the film wants you to feel.
