Whistle takes a deliciously simple idea—a cursed object you can’t resist using—and turns it into a tight, mean little engine of dread, where the scariest thing isn’t just dying, but recognizing the shape your death might take. Corin Hardy stages the film with a clammy, nightmarish atmosphere that makes hallways, bedrooms, and empty streets feel like trapdoors, and he gives the terror room to breathe so the tension accumulates instead of merely jumping out at you. Dafne Keen, Sophie Nélisse, and Sky Yang ground the supernatural conceit with credible fear and fraying camaraderie, so the horror lands as personal rather than mechanical, even when the set pieces get impressively nasty. Be warned: it’s graphic, relentless, and not remotely a “fun spooky” watch—but if you like horror that feels inventive, fatalistic, and genuinely unsettling, this one earns its screams.
