Francis Lawrence gives the film a wintry, high-stakes elegance, where every conversation feels like a negotiation and every glance might be a weapon, and the supporting cast (especially Joel Edgerton and Matthias Schoenaerts) helps the tension hum even in quiet rooms. It’s entertaining in the way good spy stories are: patient, twisty, and confident that you’ll lean in rather than tune out. Fair warning, it’s also harsh and often uncomfortable—this is an R-rated world of coercion and cruelty—so it’s not for everyone, but if you like thrillers that play smart and hit hard, it’s a gripping watch.
