Ride Along 2 (2016)

Ride Along 2 is the kind of buddy-cop sequel that knows exactly what you came for: Kevin Hart’s nervous, fast-talking chaos crashing headlong into Ice Cube’s granite-faced authority, and somehow the collision keeps getting funnier. Miami gives the series a sunnier, flashier playground, letting the action pop while the comedy stays rooted in that bickering, big-brother-little-brother energy the two leads do so well. Olivia Munn adds a welcome jolt of competence and attitude, keeping the guys from turning the movie into a two-man noise machine. It’s not a film for viewers hunting for originality or subtlety, but if you want an easy, PG-13 crowd-pleaser with laughs baked into every chase and argument, it delivers.

Ride Along 2 is clearly trying to recapture the first movie’s buddy-cop spark by tossing Kevin Hart and Ice Cube into a louder, sunnier Miami case with bigger explosions and higher stakes. The problem is the sequel feels like it’s running on autopilot: the plot is predictable, the jokes often land like reheated leftovers, and the pacing drifts between frantic set pieces and stretches that feel weirdly repetitive. If you’re hoping for a smarter mystery, fresher comedy, or any real evolution beyond “Ben messes up, James scowls,” this will test your patience. Still, Hart and Cube’s bickering chemistry can be fun in small doses, and if you just want a noisy, low-effort action-comedy to half-watch, it does the job.
