Zombeavers (2014)

Zombeavers is the rare B-movie that understands its own punchline and then commits to it with the confidence of a midnight crowd-pleaser: it’s silly, scrappy, and weirdly endearing, turning a ludicrous creature-feature idea into brisk, beer-and-popcorn entertainment. Director Jordan Rubin keeps the vibe buoyant and self-aware, balancing splashy gore and cabin-in-the-woods tension with jokes that land because the movie never pretends it’s anything but gloriously dumb fun. Zombeavers is trying to be a knowingly dumb, midnight-movie creature feature: horny college kids, a cabin, and an absurd monster idea played for laughs and splatter. When it works, it’s because the cast commits and the movie leans into its own stupidity with a few genuinely amusing beats and brisk pacing. But the central joke is basically the whole engine, and once you’ve clocked it, you’re left with cheap-looking effects, thin characters, and hit-or-miss execution that can feel like it’s spinning its wheels between attacks.
