The vibe is sensual but melancholy, composed yet unsettling, the kind of drama that invites you to sit with ambiguity rather than tidy explanations. It’s not for everyone—its explicit sexual content and refusal to moralize can be challenging—but if you’re open to a beautifully crafted film that asks hard questions about desire, agency, and identity, it lingers like a memory you can’t shake.

Young & Beautiful is clearly aiming for a cool, seasonal portrait of adolescent desire and self-invention, shot with Ozon’s usual polish and restraint, and Marine Vacth has the kind of enigmatic presence the film depends on. The catch is that it keeps Isabelle at arm’s length on purpose, offering more observation than explanation, so if you need clear psychology or an emotional “why” behind big choices, you may find it frustratingly hollow. The pacing can feel languid and the ending refuses tidy closure, which reads as thoughtful to some and simply unsatisfying to others. Also, the explicit sexual material involving a minor isn’t sensationalized, but it is central, so if that subject matter (or any whiff of romanticizing it) is a dealbreaker, this is an easy skip.
