It’s intense and often grim (the violence and suicide imagery are not shy), but if you want a high-concept horror-drama that actually earns its suspense and emotion, this one delivers.

Bird Box is clearly aiming for a high-concept survival thriller about fear of the unseen, using blindfolds and sound cues to build dread while mixing a “how it started” outbreak story with a tense journey to safety. When it works, Sandra Bullock carries the emotional weight, and a few set pieces deliver solid, nerve-jangling suspense. But the script can feel thin and oddly repetitive, with stretches where the tension deflates and the big ideas don’t get explored deeply enough to justify the mystery.
