Hot Tub Time Machine 2 (2015)

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is the kind of sequel that doesn’t pretend it’s refined; it kicks the door in, cracks a beer, and tries to make you laugh until you’re a little embarrassed you’re laughing. Steve Pink leans hard into a future-shock playground of absurd gadgets, ego-driven wish fulfillment, and gleefully stupid friendship chaos, giving Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke plenty of room to riff with manic energy. The vibe is loud, raunchy, and unapologetically juvenile, but there’s a sneaky warmth underneath the stupidity—these guys may be idiots, yet the movie wants you to root for them anyway. It’s absolutely not for anyone who’s allergic to crude sex jokes and R-rated excess, but if you’re on the fence and just want a brisk, ridiculous comedy that occasionally lands a surprisingly satisfying punchline, it’s an easy yes.

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is clearly trying to recapture the first film’s dumb, raunchy charm by pushing the guys into a future setting and letting them riff on fame, regret, and “what if” consequences. The problem is the comedy leans heavily on loud, repetitive shock gags and mean-spirited sexual humor, with stretches that feel less like clever time-travel satire and more like a desperate scramble for anything that might get a reaction. If you’re sensitive to crude nudity, drug-fueled antics, or jokes that veer into misogynistic and homophobic territory, this isn’t going to be a fun ride—it’s going to feel exhausting. There are a few lively moments thanks to Rob Corddry and Craig Robinson’s commitment, but if you liked the original for its surprisingly warm camaraderie, this sequel mostly trades that for noise.
