The Outcasts (2017)

What makes The Outcasts click is its rare refusal to be cruel: it takes the familiar high-school caste system and flips it with a wink, turning revenge into something closer to a scrappy, good-natured uprising. Victoria Justice and Eden Sher have an easy, lived-in chemistry that sells the friendship at the center, and the movie’s humor comes with a surprising undercurrent of sensitivity rather than cheap humiliation. The vibe is bright, fast, and crowd-pleasing—PG-13 mischievous with some language and partying, but never dark or nasty. If you’re looking for a vicious satire, this isn’t it; if you want a fun, buoyant teen comedy that actually likes its characters, it’s an easy pick.

The Outcasts is clearly aiming for a breezy, underdog revenge comedy about geeks finally flipping the script on the popular crowd, and the cast (especially Eden Sher) brings some likable energy to that setup. The problem is it leans hard on familiar teen-movie clichés and broad stereotypes, so the story often feels like a checklist of “high school types” rather than anything sharp or surprising. The jokes and plot beats are mostly safe and predictable, which makes the whole thing easy to watch but also easy to forget the moment it ends.
