Kieran Darcy-Smith stages it as a slow-burn investigation that keeps tightening its grip, but the real draw is Woody Harrelson, who brings a bravura mix of charm and pure menace that makes the town’s preacher-mayor feel like a smiling nightmare you can’t look away from. Liam Hemsworth and Alice Braga give the story a human pulse, while the supporting players add rough-edged color and the occasional dark fun that keeps the film from becoming one-note grim.
