Black & White: The Dawn of Assault is the kind of glossy, big-hearted action-comedy that reminds you why “buddy” movies endure: it takes two opposites—a truth-obsessed cop and a death-fearing gangster—and turns their clashing instincts into rocket fuel. Director Tsai Yueh-Hsun stages Harbour City like a playground for mayhem, delivering Hollywood-scale spectacle with crisp choreography, roaring set pieces, and a pace that barely gives you time to breathe. What really sells it, though, is the chemistry between Mark Chao and Huang Bo, who make the banter and begrudging teamwork feel earned even when the movie is gleefully going over the top.
