Killers (2014)

Killers takes a familiar serial-killer thriller setup and electrifies it with a nasty, modern twist: violence as performance, connection as contagion, and the internet as a mirror that reflects back our ugliest impulses. Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto direct with slick, nervy style, building tension not just through action but through the creeping realization that you might understand these men more than you’d like to. The film is gripping and surprisingly darkly funny in places, using sharp turns and moral provocation to keep you leaning forward even when you want to look away. It’s not for the squeamish or anyone seeking comfort, but if you want a crime thriller that’s bold, psychologically unsettling, and hard to shake, this one earns your time.

Killers is clearly trying to fuse a slick serial-killer thriller with a commentary on internet fame, voyeurism, and how violence can be “shared” into existence across borders. The problem is it often confuses intensity for depth, piling on grim shocks and nihilistic swagger until the themes feel more like decoration than insight, and the runtime starts to drag under its own self-importance. If you need characters with real psychological texture or a moral point that lands cleanly, this may feel shallow and oddly generic beneath the brutality. Still, the direction has style, the cross-country setup is a strong hook, and if you’re specifically in the mood for relentless, nasty cat-and-mouse energy, it does deliver that without apology.
